On a happier note, this past week a small bird appeared in our garden with a wagging tail and it was grey on its back with yellow front and small black bib. Tony mentioned he'd seen the same bird over the Easter break when Em and I went to visit my parents. We looked it up and discovered that it is a Grey Wagtail and He has a Mrs and they have decided to build a nest in our climbing Hydrangea right by the back door! They have made a tiny nest wrapped around the base of a miniature Rose bush. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they stay and raise young. If they do, no doubt there will be more pics.

Thank you everyone
Thank you to every one who left me a comment on my previous post about my friend Barbara's death. I have read and re-read each one and as today was her funeral they were all much appreciated. I travelled up to Wimbledon for the funeral and although I was dreading it, I was glad I went. It gave me the chance to say good bye properly. Her daughter is only 9 years old, and with maturity beyond her years she read out the most moving tribute to her Mum which reduced me to tears. I met another old school friend, Theresa. I last saw her when I was 11yrs old. We chatted about our lives now and friends from the past. We exchanged contact details, so I suppose the saying "when one door closes, another one opens" came true. We were the only two friends from primary school days but there were many friends from Barbara's work and her daughters' school as well as family.
I'm pleased today was not too bad for you Jane. It's so hard when we lose someone near to our own age. Your friend's daughter sounds like a truly remarkable young lady and I'm sure her Mum would be very proud of her.
ReplyDeleteYour photos of the grey wagtail are great! I'm slightly envious (as a birdwatcher's daughter!) that you have such a special bird nesting in your garden! Do you have a stream or river nearby? - you normally see them bobbing about by the water. Sorry, getting all factual and birdybore now ;)
Take care xxxxxxx
Jane,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to attend the funeral for your friend.I know it was comforting for you as well as for her family. I hope that your reconnection with your other childhood friend is a joyful one.
I am glad you found the funeral an opportunity to help temper the sadness you no doubt felt.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that there was something positive to come from your day Jane. Can't be easy losing a friend but let's hope you regained a new one.
ReplyDeleteLovely picture of the wagtail!
Take Care.

Im happy that you seem to be coping well with the loss of your friend Jane, there is goodness to come from everything.
ReplyDeleteLove the wagtail photos, our blue tits have definately got babies chirping away in the bird box outside, i really hope i see them when they come out!
Jane,
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right that Mottisfont Abbey is a wonderful rose garden. I was there in June 2004 and it was one of the highlights of my trip. I think I took an entire roll of film in the walled garden!
Thanks for the reminder about Mottisfont. I will ask The Professor how feasible it is to add it to the itinerary. We are still in the early stages of planning.
