Weekend in Dorset

This weekend we went down to Dorset and spent the day in Salisbury on Saturday. The weather was very wet so we didn't take any photos. We wandered around the market, there were lots of tasty smells. Fresh bread which we bought, pies, fish, cheese (yes bought some of that too), olives, coffee and fresh flowers. We bought the final book in the series of "Lemoney Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events " for Em and Jeffrey Deavers book "Coffin Dancer" for Tony (a gripping yarn not for the faint hearted, I've already read it). I was looking for a shop that kept knitting books. I wanted to get hold of "Charmed Knits" to see what it was like and also to browse some other knitting books. But I didn't find the right bookshop. I was struggling to walk towards the afternoon as I have hurt my foot and so I gave up. I'm going to see a podiatrist on Thursday about my foot, so I hope he can do something for me.

During the week I started knitting a pair of socks. The pattern was in a magazine called "Knit Today"
I thought I would try making them using some ordinary acrylic yarn so that if I made a complete mess of the knitting I wouldn't waste the yarn.
Happily I think my socks are going to be a success. I have now finished one (it fits) and I have started the second one. So my next adventure will be to try and find some lovely sock wool. I think the possibilities are endless!

I can't knit, so one needle looks complicated to me...but what is going on there with 3 of the things???????!!!!!!!! Lovely sock, just what you need at the minute on an evening in front of the telly! Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog - good luck for later on and the highly exciting draw (ok, the excitement may only be in my house!) :)

Many thanks for your comment on my blog about moths. I hate the things too, and if they're eating my stash, it will mean death in no uncertain terms! I've taken your idea and have just ordered some cedar wood from e-bay - never gave that a thought!

The nicest sock yarn I've used is Posh Yarn Emily (www.poshyarn.co.uk) It's so soft and comes in beautiful hand-dyed colours. They have a sale every Sunday at 6pm. It's well worth the visit. Not cheap, but so worth it.

Your post about Box Hill has brought back some horror memories. I went there to do my biology A level field trip. Awful experience. Needed to get back home to my knitting (and I didn't even know how to knit then!). Seemed to spend a whole week either walking through freezing cold streams or gazing at grass looking for something other than grass. Brr. Shivers running down my spine!

Oh, and I forgot to say - Charmed Knits is a great book. Some lovely patterns - have already made 2 of them - Dobby tea cosy hat and Invisibility Shawl. I see you're a Harry Potter fan - I'm sure you'll love it, it's very much in the Hogwarts spirit, and if you buy from The Book Depository is only £6.19 with free delivery . Bargain!
