"Dorset is beautiful where ever you go"
The title of this post is a line from a song sung by the Yetties and pefectly sums up the County of Dorset. Sunday afternoon we visited Tintinhull Gardens N.T. The gardens were beautiful, the tulips and magnolias were in bloom. Em took her sketch book with her to practise single line drawing of organic shapes. They will be doing more in art lessons at school after Easter. The pond in the photo was full of fish and lots of tiny tadpoles hiding in the clumps of iris. On Monday we went to Bath, to the Jane Austen Museum. It has a display of costumes of the period and tells the life story of Jane Austen, which was fascinating. We walked around the Royal Crescent and down the shopping streets. Tuesday - we visited Athelhampton House, it is a beautiful house and gardens, which we enjoyed discovering. I hope you have a good week. Jane

And are there knit shops there!? I loved the days we spent in Bath.
It all looks so spring-like! I can't help but gaze with envy at the blossoms on the tree :)
Hi Jane - I saw your comment about your husband's family's fish and chip shop on the Tradescant blog. Have you tried the Minet Library (Lambeth Archives)? They may be able to help. Also, I have access to the censuses (1901 and earlier) if you would like me to check (was the family in the area for long?). I use it primarily to research the names on the Stockwell War Memorial. I would need the relevant names. I run the blog www.stockwellnews.com. All the best - Bathsheba. Can't find your email on your site so hope you don't mind me using your comments (you can always delete it).
I would love to go to the Jane Austen musuem! You must have had the best time!
Id love to go to Dorset (I wouldnt mind living in a thatched cottage in Dorset either), but a visit would do. It always looks so pretty. X

I had yet to discover the Jane Austen Museum. I shall enjoy reading more from their web pages. Thanks for the link. We have always had some very enjoyable, adventurous holidays in Dorset, it is a lovely county. I hope your break away aided you in your recovery from your rotten flu bug. x
